No Mo' Chemo!

Tonight, we gave the final dose of chemotherapy to Scarlett.  After nearly 13 months, it has finally come to an end.

I heard this song for the first time as I was driving home from the hospital one night after her big surgeries.  Every time I heard it after that, I thought about how it was a perfect theme song for this day that I thought would never come.(I had to change the link, so here's the official video.)

We got Scarlett a pink frosted cupcake to celebrate her accomplishment.  She took a minute to warm up to it...

Then she began to tear it apart, without letting any of it touch her mouth...

And by the time she was finished, she had successfully dissected it without tasting a single speck!

After a bath, she went to bed, just like every other night.  We enjoyed some celebratory champagne as we completed the final medication diary.

Tomorrow, we are right back into our normal routine.  She will never remember all the nights of gloves and syringes, and the subsequent days of sickness.  I hope that this is the end of an era, that we never, ever have to come back to this again.

AMEN to that! Btw, my daughter never 'ate' her first cupcake either at 1 years old. She took it all apart and when we lifted it into her mouth to taste the icing started to cry hysterically.

perfect song and what a perfect moment! *clinks glass* here's to no more nights of pain, tears, and illness. Here's to freedom from protocols and syringes. Here's to a brand new joyous start for the 3 of you. I comment the two of you by the way for staying strong for each other as you went through this. I can only imagine how hard that has to be on a marriage...

but oh how worthwhile it is!!! I am so thrilled to be able to share in this joy with you!

GO SCARLETT!!!

I really hope that this is the close to a chapter that you never have to revisit. Your beautiful little girl and that two of you have been through too much, more than anyone should have to go through.

I cannot believe I have been reading your journey since day one. I am one of the BBC moms from the November 2010 goroup but was also in the October 2010 group.

I am always so happy to hear when you have good news.

I cannot believe she didn't eat one single speck of the cupcake. Will she eat anything? DId you try to put some frosting on her lips?

Praise GOD! So happy to hear about her clear MRI and now her last dose of Chemo! May you never have to go though this again. Scarlett is a strong girl, who has amazing strong parents. So glad you and DH can find a way to connect after all this too. What a great way to celebrate. Will be praying for her continued recovery and strength. Looking forward to hearing about all her triumphs in her journey ahead. She is so beautiful! p.s. DS didn't eat his first or second birthday cake. He played with it then cried his hands were dirty. LOL Thats all part of the fun of it. :)
