Mama!

Scarlett refused to go to bed tonight, but it seems she had a reason.  She wanted to show us this:

There was always a little part of me that wasn't sure if she would ever really have language.  She has not really shown a lot of understanding yet, no signs and mostly just babbling since she was 3 months old.  The part of the brain that would normally control speech and language is theoretically missing in Scarlett's brain, so we had our doubts.  She proves us wrong time and time again.

And that smile gets me every time.

Oh wow! I am so thrilled! That is wonderful. That is one of the sweetest words in the world and it is so much sweeter from her knowing all the obstacles she has had to overcome. This assists to be a wonderful sign that her brain is rerouting controls and I hope there are many more wonderful things to come.

This is amazing!I know from reading that you all are overwhelmed with all of the therapies and doctors, but I'm wondering if you've been offered or have access to music therapy. I'm a music therapist in Indiana. Music is a whole brained activity, and research shows that with individuals with either injury or developmental issues with their brain that music can help create new signals and connections within the brain. Just curious, but I'm sure that is "music" to your ears! Continued prayers!

I love following your blog and am so pleased and happy to hear of Scarlett's progress and good health. I just showed my daughter (6 year old) the video of Scarlett saying "Mama." She wanted to tell you:
"I'm so happy for you that Scarlett is learning to talk. I think she can learn to do anything! I like Scarlett just the way she is! She is strong."
Way to go Scarlett! We are cheering for you!

I'm a fellow mom from the BBC Oct 2010 group and I just wanted to let you know I've been following your guys story since you told us the news. I'm so happy for you guys that Scarlette is showing such great progress :) One day she'll never even realize she had such a hard start in life.

Also my babygirl just had a conversation with yours via the computer. (Or so she thought)
