Another huge THANK YOU to the teachers in my school district. I just found out that enough days have been donated to keep us fully insured through August. This is a HUGE weight off of our shoulders and such a blessing. In the past, I have gotten slips requesting donations of sick leave to other teachers, but I never did it...I now understand just how necessary those kinds of gifts can be and will do my best to help whenever I can. Pay it forward!
I'm still getting laid off (for the third time). It's a bad time to be a teacher around here. But, we'll deal with that later.
Thanks also to The Irwin ladies for the yummy Italian food and the toys for Scarlett (she really likes them!); to the Fullertons for our favorite, Chipotle; and to Carol McCarty for her casserole and brownies.

That is awesome news about the donated days. There are so many kind, wonderful people out there. I am sorry to hear about the layoffs. I am also a teacher in CA, and I got pink slipped for two years before before I got officially laid off last school year. It is emotional and stressful and exactly what you shouldn't have to deal with right now.
How blessed you are to stay insured! Sorry your getting laid off. :o( Look at the bright side - more time with Scarlett - outside of the hospital. :o)

I have read this blog from the very start of it. I often think and pray for Scarlett. I find it important to say I am discouraged that the blog is becoming more about gifts recieved and financial issues and less about what is actually going on with Scarlett. I think you both are great parents doing a wonderful job with such an extraordinary little girl. Congratulations on that!
Oh yay Brandi, how very wonderful!!! I never fully understood about the shared days either until I needed them. So glad it goes through the end of the school year! Too bad other districts can't share with you! I believe your Thank you's are very appropriate. I for one love to read how so many people are doing so many wonderful things for you as you walk this path - friends and strangers alike! It definitely is all about Scarlett.

Congrats on the donated days. Hearing your story makes me realize why I should be donating sick days to teachers in my district. As for the layoffs, we will cross our fingers for you that you get re-hired next year. Our smaller district sent out 100 notices going back to teachers from 2006, but they said if the extended taxes pass, they'll be able to re-hire at least 75% of the teachers. I hope it's like that for you as well so that you can continue to have insurance. These CA budget cuts are becoming impossible.
You are truly blessed by wonderful co-workers. I enjoy reading your blog everyday and find your 'thank-you's' encouraging and uplifting. I am also a teacher who has been unable to find a position for over 2 years. I hope that God continues you bless you and precious Scarlett, and don't be shy about posting pictures of that beautiful baby, I think I speak for many of your readers when I say we love seeing her darling face and adorable outfits.
Hi brandi - i read your blog daily, although I usually don't have time to comment. You, Chris & Scarlett are always in my prayers & I'm glad to hear about the donated sick days. I never thought about it, but will bring it up as a suggestion to my supervisor for the future. Oh, and just like others have commented about the 9pm poster...big fat whatever. I like knowing all that is going on. If they dont, they can just skip your blog.

I echo the thoughts of the posters encouraging you to thank others publicly as you see fit. The poster who feels otherwise obviously isn't confident enough to post as something other than Anonymous.
They are also obviously missing one of the important testaments that this blog (probably unexpectedly) shares with its readers and that is that something like that is so trivial in the general scheme of things.
Each day when I get frustrated with something so minute going on with my nine month old (like not coming anywhere CLOSE to sleeping through the night) I remind myself that there are some parents who would love to have that be their biggest concern.

I, too, am a teacher. Thankfully I have 12+ years invested in my district, so my job is not in jeopardy even though so many others are (in Iowa we are experiencing rough times as well w/budgets). Hang in there! I'm sure you are a wonderful teacher, because you sure are a wonderful mommy.
I am one of those people who find it VERY important to thank others for gifts. For you to find time to thank others right now in this chaotic time is awesome. Why anyone would call you out on that is beyond me - it's quite silly, and actually a bit humorous. Apparently they don't have manners. :) Is there a way to block people from posting if they don't have a name? Just a thought....
