A Long Year

Tomorrow, Scarlett will be one year old.  She is 19 pounds, 2 ounces and 27 inches long.  She has 8 teeth.  Her hair is coming in very blond, except the dark streak over her large incision site (we're calling it "natural highlights").  She babbles with consonant sounds and yells when she wants us to pay attention to her.  She is beginning to roll over, toodles around the house in her walker and loves to be held up to stand and jump.  She puts every thing that gets near her hand into her mouth (except food), including her hearing aids, which she can expertly remove.  She loves anything that makes noise or lights up.  She laughs out loud daily.


Scarlett has had an amazing year that we will never forget.  I will always cherish the good that came from the trauma of this year.  We have a beautiful child who has fought for every single day she has lived.  Each day is easier, but she is far from the end of her fight.  I am so proud of her, and proud of us for surviving along with her.
