MRI

Just a quick update, more to come later today...

MRI went well.  Scarlett was sedated and intubated, and came through the procedure easily.  She even got a fuzzy teddy bear, new crocheted blankie and a book from the radiology team.

We have had an influx of specialists and departments come to see us today.  Endocrinology, Neurology, Cardiology, all looking to establish baselines before surgery.

She is all hooked up for monitoring, but we have a meeting with surgeons to prepare for tomorrow morning.  We'll post more as soon as all the doctors give us a few minutes peace.  :-)

Tomorrow is going to be a long day. You will probably be in a surgical waiting room with lots of other parents. The other parents will come and go quickly and be replaced by more like them. Very few will be waiting as long as you will wait. They will be worried about tonsils and adenoids and they might not have the sensitivity to understand that some parents in the room are waiting for their child to get through an incredibly serious surgery. Bring music and earphones. Identify yourself to the receptionist when you get there so that they will track you down if the OR wants to talk to you. If they do contact you it will be to let you know that they are making progress and your baby is stable. It takes a long time to do things right. I handed off my baby at 9am and got to see her again at 4pm and she just had part of the frontal lobe removed. They have to move slowly with these things yet they will be going as quickly as they possibly can. I wasn't prepared for how white she would look after surgery. I could explain or show you pictures but it would not prepare you. It will be a little upsetting. Allow yourself to cry. Its OK to cry. She will look better and better every day. In my experience, its best to give the pain meds on a schedule rather than waiting for her to show you it hurts. Also, have the nurses bring a suppository if she is not making regular bowel movements. This will keep her comfortable. She will bounce back from this. You will be amazed by her ability to deal with such a traumatic surgery. She is a fighter and she gets that from her strong, strong parents. Hang in there. I will be praying for steady hands.
