News

Ok everyone....breathe.

It is 8:55pm PST.  Scarlett is out of surgery. She is doing well and is stable.  We saw her as they wheeled her to PICU and she is moving all 4 limbs and coming out of sedation well.  Hooray!!!!!

However, we're not done.  The surgeon removed 70-80% of the tumor.  He felt this was somewhat easily and successfully removed and he could have continued, but he was concerned about her blood loss.  She lost twice her full volume of blood (her entire blood volume is equivalent to a can of soda).  She was successfully transfused and is stable, but he wanted to be conservative, so she will go back into surgery next week to remove the remaining tumor.

We will see her again shortly.  I am so proud of my feisty little girl!!!!  Thank you to everyone for keeping us raised up; we're not out of the woods, but we are feeling confidant that we made the right decision for now.

Wonderful news! My husband and I have been including baby Scarlett in our thoughts and prayers! Our little one, Sophia, wore red to bed last night too in honor of her little friend Scarlett. Praise God for His wondrous deeds!

My daughter had brain surgery at 5 months old to remove a cyst in her brain, which was found in utero via ultra sound. It was an incredibly exhausting, stressful, worrying and emotional experience so I've been riveted to your blog since a friend emailed it to me yesterday. Your descriptions of handing her over to them, waiting in the PICU, watching her as they brought her in from surgery brought me RIGHT back to our identical experience. After a careful recovery, my daughter is now a happy and thriving 13 month old who is taking her first steps, clapping and showing me where her head is (ironically.) Hang in there and stay positive. Know that someone you don't know in New York is thinking of you and your little girl.

I am so happy to hear that Scarlett pulled through her first surgery. My family continues to pray for a healthy medical discharge. My heart goes out to you Brandi and Chris for being so strong in all of this. You both are so much stronger than I think I could be having to go through all this. Scarlett, you need to stay strong and continue to fight. You are such an amazing little girl who is loved my thousands!! Keep us informed with the progress and we'll continue to pray for all 3 of you. Love you!!!

I just started checking out the babycenter clothdiaper pages a few days ago and noticed Scarlett's name many times. But just today I decided to check it out. I just sat here and read every blog from the beginning, having to stop occasionally to just lay my head down and cry. I do not pray often, but I will pray for Scarlett.
